Maurice G. Woods, II

Education: Maurice graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a B.B.A. in Finance in 1993 and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1996.  He has been a trial lawyer for 25 years, and founded McAtee & Woods, P.C. in 2001. 

Practice Areas: Maurice’a practice has been focused on complex litigation involving Insurance Law, Bad Faith, Construction Law, Products Liability, Professional Liability, and cases involving catastrophic injuries and death.

Recognition: Maurice has been honored by his peers with recognition in Martindale-Hubbell as a “Pre-Eminent AV” rated lawyer.  He is one of among only 93 lawyers in the State of Oklahoma admitted to the American Board of Trial Advocates, where he holds distinction as an Advocate.  He has consistently been named as an Oklahoma Super Lawyer since 2011 and prior to that was named as a Super Lawyer Rising Star from 2009-2011.  He has been included in the list of OKC’s Best’s Lawyers since 2015 and was named 2022 Lawyer of the Year for Insurance Law in Oklahoma.

Experience: Maurice has tried nearly sixty jury trials to verdict in state and federal forums throughout Oklahoma.  He routinely handles appellate matters, has many noteworthy opinions before the Oklahoma Supreme Court, Court of Civil Appeals, and has successfully argued multiple cases before the U.S. Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals resulting in several published opinions.

Maurice has been an instructor for various insurance companies, teaching insurance claims’ professionals guidance in the industry and providing Continuing Legal Education courses to lawyers on behalf of the National Business Institute.

He is admitted to the practice of law in the state of Oklahoma, before the United States District Courts for the Western, Northern, and Eastern Districts of Oklahoma, and the United States Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.  He is a member of the Oklahoma County Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association.
